Household toxin
exposure is linked to almost every disease that we know of, particularly to cancer, cardiovascular, immune, endocrine, nervous, respiratory, and reproductive systems.

We have to look in the place where we spent most of our time, in and around our home, and in particular what we store under the kitchen sink, bathroom, laundry room and garden shed.

Most of our cleaning products are extremely harmful to you, your kids and our environment; few examples are given below with alternatives.

To start:
Gather and dispose of all your toxic products at your local hazardous waste facility and replace them with nontoxic alternatives containing biodegradable ingredients.

The top 7 worst and most used toxic products to watch out for are;

  • Fabric Softeners
  • Chlorine
  • Formaldehyde
  • Ammonia
  • Pesticides
  • Antibacterial soaps and deodorants.
  • Volatile chemical compounds

Fabric Softeners.
Fabric softeners are the most toxic products made for daily household use. They contain chloroform, benzyl acetate and pentane that are known to cause cancer, damage lungs, brain and nerves.
The chemicals in fabric softeners are even more dangerous when heated in the clothes dryer.

Fabric softener stays in clothes fibers and slowly releases over a long time and the slow release of these chemicals affect the health of those wearing the clothes

Some symptoms: tiredness, rashes, difficulty breathing, concentrating and remembering, dizziness, headaches, nervousness and controlling body movements.

An alternative to fabric softener! use a cup of baking soda in the wash.

Chlorine.
Although chlorine isn't poisonous to the body, the chemical reaction that often occurs while mixing chlorine and other organics/chemicals will produce a number of very lethal gasses.

Cleaning the toilet; Chlorine mixes with ammonia (urine contains ammonia) produce a very toxic gas that can be deadly.

Many people mix chlorine with dish soap while cleaning the kitchen (on purpose or by accident), and the result is mustard gas, which can be lethal.

A good alternative is hydrogen peroxide-based bleaches

Formaldehyde.
Formaldehyde is used as a germ killer or a preservative, and found in some commercial products such as carpets, plastics, paper products and cosmetics.

In all new homes is a tremendous amount of pressed wood used like particleboard, wafer board also called chipboard, plywood, and other pressed wood products and some of them are also used to make furniture, cabinets, shelves, wall paneling and counter tops.

Some symptoms: nausea, burning sensations in the eyes and throat, difficulty in breathing, asthma attacks,
There is evidence to cause cancer in animals and may cause cancer in humans.

Pesticides.
Still used in most households and non-organic farming.
Problems with using pesticides could result in developmental challenges, cancer, nervous system and reproductive problems.

Antibacterial soaps, deodorants, cosmetics, toothpaste.
Most of these products contain triclosan and is harmful to the immune system and endocrine system dysfunction.

Volatile chemical compounds.
Found in most bathroom and kitchen sanitizers, fly and mosquito-spays killers, air fresheners, and hair sprays are linked to cancer, respiratory, reproductive, neurological and developmental problems.
